NYC Reception Successfully Kicks-Off the Inaugural Cycle of the Hart New Play Initiative

Moss and Kitty Carlisle Hart’s daughter, Catherine, hosted a kick-off reception for the Moss Hart & Kitty Carlisle Hart New Play Initiative (Hart NPI) at her Manhattan home on November 16. Key people from 59E59 Theaters (the program’s NYC home theater) and Grove Theater Center (the LA home theater) attended, along with the top staff of the Hart NPI, board members, advisory board members, friends and supporters.

The Hart NPI is a new play development program that selects four scripts from open submissions. These four plays receive readings at 59E59 Theaters. Two of those then receive full productions at Grove Theater Center in Burbank. And one of those returns to NYC to receive its Off-Broadway Premiere as part of the subscription series at 59E59 Theaters.

And this is what distinguishes the Hart NPI from other programs. We have a permanent home theater on the West Coast and, thanks to the Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation, a permanent home theater in NYC. And one lucky playwright receives a production on both coasts!

The submission window for scripts is now open through January 19, 2018. The four selected plays will be read July 12-15, 2018. The LA productions are September to November 2018 and the Off-Broadway Premiere is March 13-April 21, 2019. The program is open to all playwrights with no submission fee.
